Exploring Nature’s Classroom: The Benefits of Bush Kindy at Curiosity Tree
At Curiosity Tree Early Education, we are committed to fostering a love for learning that grows from curiosity, and nowhere is this more evident than at our Bush Kindy programs. Through hands-on exploration, children are thriving as they learn about the natural world around them, and we are seeing incredible results in their development.
Learning Through Nature
Bush Kindy provides children the opportunity to engage with the natural environment in ways that traditional classrooms simply cannot. Here, the bush becomes their classroom, and every stick, leaf, and tree holds a lesson waiting to be discovered.
One of the most exciting developments has been our children’s growing confidence in working with tools. Under close supervision, they learn to safely handle basic tools, allowing them to craft, build, and create using natural materials. This experience not only builds practical skills but also enhances their fine motor development, problem-solving abilities, and sense of accomplishment.
Jack “Look, I’ve cut a stick! It was tricky though because it was hollow inside”
Liliana “It look a long time to cut but if you keep going, it cuts!”
Caring for the Environment
Bush Kindy also fosters a deep connection with the environment. Through regular interaction with nature, children are developing a respect for the world around them. They learn how to care for the environment by observing how delicate ecosystems function, understanding the importance of conserving resources, and recognising their own role in protecting these spaces.
From planting seeds to tidying up after their play, these small yet significant actions teach children the importance of environmental stewardship from a young age. This awareness is laying the foundation for them to become environmentally conscious individuals who will carry these values into adulthood.
Spencer “We can use these rubbish pickers to pick up any rubbish left so it doesn’t end up in the creek”
Liliana “You pick it up and put it in the recycling bin because that’s paper”
Real-World Skills in Action
The benefits of Bush Kindy go beyond just tool work and environmental care. We are witnessing improvements in teamwork, resilience, and communication as children collaborate on projects or navigate challenges like a steep hill or fallen tree. Their ability to assess risks, think critically, and make decisions in a natural setting is sharpening their life skills in ways that extend beyond the classroom walls.
As our children flourish in their Bush Kindy adventures, we are reminded of the boundless opportunities that nature-based learning offers. The combination of practical skills, environmental care, and personal growth is creating a well-rounded learning experience that’s as exciting as it is enriching.
Ted “We sit down and be very careful coming down the rocks”
Rylee “If you stop and listen you can hear all the frogs”
We are so proud of the progress we’re seeing in each child and are thrilled to continue offering this exceptional learning journey across our Centres!
